According to WSJ, Apple's profit climbed 67%, fueled by growth in its Macintosh computer business and momentum in the new iPhone. Apple's share price also reached historical high at $ 174.36.
In my opinion, Apple will contines to grow fast in the foresable future. I have bought 3 ipod, the ipod video 80G, the ipod shuffle and the iphone. And I am pretty much impressed by Mac OS 10.5, the Lepoard, system and plan to replace my sony VAIO with MacbookPro later and probably also buy a Macintosh desktop system as well.
The reasons why Apple totally turn around and starts to gain significant share in each of the market it competes include at least the followings:
1. innovative products appealing to broad customers
As everyone knows, ipod has redifined the mp3 market, now iphone is a truly innovative product, it offers almost everything I need or many are beyond my expectations. Overall it is much better than mobile phones I used before. I just like it. Of course, Apple's products are not perfect, but there is no perfect product in the world, the inperfection is just a like a small bite on an apple, not bad actually. Furthermore, the design of Apple is definitely art, every product is beautifully designed. I admit probably 50% of the reason I want to swith to Mac is because of the 'beautiful' feeling, both the stunning and user friendly interface and the appearance.
2. creative marketing
The marketing paperganda "Think Different" is so successful, so buying an Apple is not just buying a product, it is more buying a lifestyle, it means taste, simplicity and state of art new technology. Do you want that lifestyle? Yes? Then you have to buy an Apple. In addition, Apple's products are beautifully advertised.
People don't like Apple call Apple fans as "apple snob", and they claim that IQ of Apple users is notably lower PC users. Porbably true, who cares, Apple is just so refreshing in a world used to be dominated by PC.
3. great value
I think Microsoft is more important in the WinTel alliance. Everytime Microsoft launch a new OS, the demands for new hardware surge. But the actual using experience is not very different. Honestly, the PC can do more things today, but for similar functions, the overall speed is not much faster than several years ago. This is because although the processing power of hardware is much faster, but the software is much more heavy loaded and in certain degree, less efficient than before. Just looking at the size of Vista and Office, I don't think the money we paid to upgrade hardware and software justify the value.
Apple, however, has an advantage, especailly after it swithed to Intel from PowerPc. Lepoard can run on a Mac made 7 years ago, it indicates the Mac OS is actually much more efficient than Windows. More importantly, Apple is transforming from a computer company into a more diversified company offers handsets and mp3 players, the transformation is very successful, thanks to the great integration of Apple's hardware and software. Iphone is an example, because the device is powered by Mac OS, there is obvious accumulative advantage, it is much more advanced than other mobile phones. Another point is the bootcamp, which is built in Leopard, enables nearly zero switching cost from PC, it offers everything we need, thus, the price premium of a Machintosh computer is less significant switching barrier.
Just loves Apple.
